Interlude Move

On the next day, Amelia had managed to heal all the bruises and burn marks scattered on her body; her hair was still being messy because it wasn’t a living thing, and thus it couldn’t be healed, except for the follicles. Her underclothes also were ruined and she wondered how she had managed to enter in her room without being seeing in spite being almost naked after the incident with Lina. Usually, her clothes got some tears and such, but it was because her wandering priestess outfit was protected by a spell, but it wasn’t the case of her lingerie kit.

Lina had been in a sour mood all night. The redhead sorceress had been barely to sleep and her usually never-ending appetite was frozen, too. Amelia knew the real reason was because her best but also ill-tempered friend thought she was waiting for Gourry in his room and not Zelgadiss; and since the blond swordsman had been truly shocked on the previous night, Lina had thought it was only Amelia’s fault and not Gourry’s. Of course Lina still being angry with Gourry as well, but in her logic, Gourry was just too stupid to recognize how a woman was trying to seduce him even if it was as plain obvious as that. It was a good thing, but it also infuriated Lina because she doubted Gourry was able to understand her feelings for him, even if she said it clearly.

But Lina was wrong. Gourry knew well, too well, what had happened. He knew Lina was totally in love for him, but he just didn’t made any more for the sole reason Lina wasn’t ready to admit it. When she did, then he would do what he had to do. He also knew the real reason behind Lina’s angriness from the past night, although the redhead’s excuses were a collection of nonsensical musses about Amelia being such a slut or something like that.

Gourry of course, didn’t want his two best female friends to be like that because a misunderstanding. On the previous night, Zelgadiss and he had agreed in exchanging their respective rooms because the chimera didn’t feel safe in the room that had been assonated to him, and since Gourry didn’t mind to make the change, he just did. But since Amelia had left the table before anybody else, she just wasn’t aware about that and what she did –being dressed like a cute love girl- wasn’t for him, but for Zelgadiss. Contrary to Lina’s loud belief, Gourry wasn’t as stupid as the redhead said, and he had understood what had happened better than her. Now he knew he had to do something.

So he went to talk with Lina.

***

Firia also knew. Her short contact with humans had taught her humans were a vibrating species that lived their short lives too quickly, thus their actions were somehow unpremeditated (mostly if it was Lina Inverse and her friends who you were talking about), and the result of those could be catastrophic. For Firia, the most reflexive, serious and reasonable man of such an eclectic gang was Zelgadiss; she knew his history thanks the oracle power, and she also was well-aware of his past and his implications in the later Ruby Eyed Shabranigudu. In spite of that, Firia quite understood him and she tended to ignore his sour mood and lack of moral sense. As Vrabazard’s priestess, she couldn’t blame a human of being like that because he had been just a pawn for Ruby Eye’s intentions. In short, she was respectful, even pitying of him.

Now, after the past night events, she had realized what had to be obvious after quite a while. Amelia, the priestess-princess of the most Cephied inclined kingdom inside the Accident Barrier had a thing for him, a very powerful thing… and had tried to do something about that hiding herself in his room. It was an amusing human’s behavior: they were very prudish about their nude form –which she also felt when she was in human form because she felt very vulnerable- but humans also found it highly attractive. They idea of a female dragon trying to mate a male using her body form was amusing for her, but for humans (and sometimes disturbing customs) it was a very important matter.

And Amelia had tried to do.

But due to some causality, it had ended really wrong.

And now, the priestess in question and the human in charge of ‘The most important mission ever’ had a fight for a mating mistake. It was something she couldn’t allow to happen. Not again after the fiasco in the Love Temple.

Of course Firia couldn’t get to chat with Zelgadiss about that matter because he, surprisingly, remained ignorant about the events of the last night. And knowing him, he probably thought it was another stupid fight over food or something that Lina had with Amelia or Gourry, nothing important. As it usually happened, the person in question was the last in learning what was going on.

However, Firia made up her mind to talk with Amelia. She knew Gourry would try to talk with Lina, and if it didn’t work, she also would try to deal with the stubborn redhead. The Vrabazard’s priestess wasn’t about to spoil her mission because some bizarre love fight; she would obey Lina to accomplish her mission even if she had to treat her with Luna’s presence.

Amelia looked at the little mirror of her room as she inspected her burned hair. There wasn’t any other thing to do; she had to cut her burned locks, and well, perhaps buying some new lingerie kit, since the one she had was totally burned the previous night. But before that, she rather should make things clear with Lina. Amelia, in spite of her mind, wasn’t about to try something else without apologizing with Lina first.

*Nock-Nock*

“Who’s there?” Amelia asked with a startled look. She hadn’t felt anything and kept her breath because it could be Lina.

“It’s Firia. Can I enter?” asked the muffled voice of the golden dragon at other side of the door.

“Ms. Firia?” Amelia exclaimed, it wasn’t what she expected. “Yeah, of course. Enter, please.”

The door cracked and the golden dragon just entered in the room. Amelia was fully healed, as much she could see, and she also was dressed with her usual wandering priestess outfit, except for her black hair, which was burned here and there, and her cloak that had been abandoned in Gourry’s room.

“I’m glad to see you’re fine, Amelia.” Firia smiled.

The priestess smiled sadly, “It isn’t the first time Miss. Lina fireballed me. I can handle that, but…”

“I’ll bet.” Firia answered, the she looked around. “Can I sit?”

Amelia felt a hint of shame for that; it was supposed she was the polite one. “Yes, of course. But I’m afraid you only can sit down on the bed.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Firia answered and took a seat on the mattress.

“How is it? The innkeeper, I mean.” Amelia asked. “Actually I’m surprised he didn’t kick us out after tonight.”

“I used my priestess power and I could cast a spell in order to rebuild that room. It was enough to silence him…. You know, people here aren’t used to magic and it has a strong effect over them.”

It had been a heavy work for the dragon priestess; she wasn’t used to cast such spells, even less in presence of humans, but lately it was becoming a habit because Amelia wasn’t powerful enough for that kind of White Magic, and it was a clear side-effect of traveling with Lina.  Listening here, Amelia couldn’t help but smiling softly.

“And Lina?” she asked, “I should talk with her… but…”

“You’re afraid of her.” Firia guessed.

“Yes… No! ...It’s just I should bring up something she doesn’t’ want to hear.”

“Really?”

Amelia nodded, “She doesn’t want to be told I didn’t do that because Mr. Gourry. She loves him, you know. But she mistake my actions and she thought I was trying to do something with Mr. Gourry”

“Yes, I know… It was the real reason because the Accident Barrier disappeared.” Firia smiled.

Amelia blinked, “Really? I didn’t know what happened back them! And well, Miss. Lina never told us. I am very glad the ‘power of their love’ could such thing!”

“My oracle power is different than yours and it allows me to learn more things.” Firia answered before Amelia kept babbling about “love” and “justice”; those were totally right for Firia, but now they could become a real problem and she had to stop Amelia.  “Now, she’s really upset.” The female dragon finished.

“She blames me for what happened tonight. I didn’t mean to be half naked in front of Mr. Gourry, but she thinks so… And I’m afraid to face her about something she does not want to hear at all.”

“You should, but if you feel better, Gourry is already talking with her.”

Amelia’s eyes widened and a smile spread on her lips, a genuine one.

“Then, I’ll do that too.” She announced.

Firia was surprised. After months traveling with such human gang, she had become used to their respective personalities, but Amelia’s joyful and willing character still surprised her. It wasn’t any surprised Zelgadiss was so fond of her, too. At first, Firia didn’t catch the group’s interaction further than Gourry and Lina’s obvious love for each other,
(which she knew it was the real reason of Fibrizo’s defeat) but eventually she noticed there also was an obvious link between Zelgadiss and Amelia, even if they weren’t as lousy as being able to defeat a Mazoku lord because of that. Now, it seemed Amelia had decided to do something about it… Why couldn’t she try something as spectacular as saving the word because their love? Something like Lina and Gourry did?

She had to do something about that. Not because Firia felt she had interfere herself in their coming relationship, but because it could spoil her sacred mission.

“However… even if you talk with her, what you did was quite reckless.” Firia pointed, but Amelia just looked at her with a confused expression. The Golden dragon thought she should be clearer. “I’m not familiarized with humans’ matting customs, but I know you use nudity for that… and you didn’t know Gourry and Zelgadiss exchanged rooms tonight after you left.”

Amelia’s mouth gape and her face turned totally red. Now, it was clear what had happened with the rooms: she wasn’t wrong about what was Zelgadiss’ room; it was he just exchanged his for Gourry’s and she just didn’t know. On the other hand, it also meant that Firia knew what she was about to do, even if she claimed not being familiarized with human’s matting behavior. She mentally patted herself on that back for being able to correctly assess the situation.

“I… I really sorry, Ms. Firia. But I just don’t know what else to do.” She apologized. “The events in the Love Temple only caused a fight between us because we weren’t unable to accept our feelings. And the result was… well, you know… Dark Start almost entered in this world. I cannot allow such thing to ever happen."

Firia looked at Amelia, knowing the human priestess was totally right. The golden dragon’s face seemed to be calm, but Amelia almost could see a vein tilting under her blonde fringe, and the edge of her long golden tail was shaking nervously. It was pretty obvious Firia was really upset about what had happened in the Love Temple, and the sole idea of remembering she had been paired with Xelloss, even if it was a fake, made her totally nervous.

Anyway, it also meant Firia was aware about Amelia’s youngness, as well her heart and polite behavior. After last night events, it was clear it had been very embarrassing for her, although the princess was totally right about the implications of their personal feelings in the current mission. Firia had to admit because such bizarre love affair in the group, Dark Start could enter in this world. The thought was scary.

---At least Zelgadiss didn’t know anything about that, or at very least, Amelia thought so. It meant he was being immune to those problems.

“Does… he… know…?” she began.

“He? Do you mean Zelgadiss?” asked Firia and Amelia nodded with a blush, “I don’t think so. He was just angry because the mess Lina made, but he doesn’t seem to be worried about anything else.”

Amelia smiled softly, “He’s too used to our fights.”

“So… that's how it happened.” Gourry concluded.

Lina didn’t know what to think. Gourry had asked her to talk seriously, and he had been so unusually serious that she couldn’t help but listening to him. Gourry, Lina had learned, could be very sharp in his observations, although according with Lina’s opinion, it only happened time to time, and now, surely Gourry would have forgotten the whole issue for the next week. Perhaps because she was quite down after finding her best friends dressed like such a harlot in his love interest’s room, Lina found herself unable to reply. The redhead was very protective about men, but it also meant she was quite inexperienced to deal with love relationships.

And Gourry, even if she didn’t want to admit it, knew what was going on all too well.

The blonde swordsman’ speech was clear. He just pointed Amelia had left the table before anybody else, so she didn’t know it was now his room and not *other* room, so it was pretty obvious Amelia didn’t mean to show herself dressed like that in front of him or the rest of the gang. Lina had to admit Gourry made a point, but the fact wasn’t totally clear.

“Then… what the heck she was doing dressed like that? C’mon, Gourry… Amelia was dressed like one of those… those… Well, you know.”

Even Lina found hard to believe Amelia would be get dressed like that, a fact that oddly made remember Naga.

“I don’t know what clothes she wears under her priestess tunic, Lina.” Gourry reasoned and the redhead had to admit he was right… according to Gourry’s logic.

“Okay…. Okay… Never mind.” Lina waved her hand and sighed heavily.

“I just say it isn’t enough reason to fireball her like that. She’s very upset about what happened.”

Lina frowned. She had the feeling Gourry was hiding something, or he was trying to tell her something under the lines. Certainly the swordsman didn’t know how Amelia looked in underwear because he only had seen her twice in bathing suits, but he also had repeated it wasn’t his room when they were on the table. It was Zelgadiss.’

Lina’s eyes widened at the realization: it wasn’t Gourry who was Amelia waiting for dressed like that… it was the moody chimera. Amelia was, indeed, waiting for him dressed in such suggestive underclothes. She was trying to make a move… on him. Or, perhaps they were already together, and this was a regular, normal thing for them. But, Zel had switched rooms just a little afterwards Amelia left and his reasoning was the usual in him. Had he thought Amelia knew, or was he just being a jerk who was trying to hurt Lina best friend? Was it some sick joke they were playing on them? Or was Zelgadiss just a bastard? No, it had to be a plain confusion: Lina had learned that, even if Zelgadiss didn’t have the highest moral sense of the group (it was Amelia), he was very respectful with his friends, or at least he was with females. Besides that, was the fact of the chimera becoming angry because the events on the past night.

The redhead sorceress groaned loudly in disbelief and let her front hit the wall of her room.

***

Shortly afterwards, Firia was cutting off Amelia’s burned locks and fixing her hair when they found Lina tromped inside the dark haired priestess room. They both jumped on her places when they saw Lina, dressed with her usual sorceress clothes and carrying a big piece of white cream fabric on her hand, stormed towards Amelia, who looked at her with a confused –and almost scared- expression; Lina was warm, yes burning with a flare, but there was a light pink color on her cheeks, as she would be ashamed of something.

“You, Justice freak!” she barked even without looking a Firia, “Get yourself ready and come with me!”

Amelia blinked. It was the last think she would had think of Lina; besides, the sorceress didn’t usually address her in such words.

“…What?” Amelia asked.

“Don’t look to me like that. I’ve realized what you meant to do… and we have to solve this at *once*. Before I find Zelgadiss coming to my room asking for some favor, or an army of ol’ men chasing you.”

“Li—Lina?” Amelia exclaimed, a pink blush creeping on her face as she realized what Lina meant to say.

“Here!” The redhead sorceress throw Amelia’s cloak on her head, covering it with the big piece of white cloth. “Put this and come with me!” Then, she turned towards the golden dragon in human shape. “Firia, tell me where we can find a good corsetry shop on this town!”

Amelia blushed furiously at Lina’s words but she obeyed and put her white cloak –which had survived in Gourry’s room after the explosion- and waited for Lina. Meanwhile, the golden dragon looked at Lina with a puzzled face.

“Lina… I don’t know this city… How can I know where is a female goods shop like that here? For the record, I’m a dragon and not a human.”

The redhead wasn’t about to take excuses, but certainly she didn’t expect such an answer.

***

The town were they were had stopped and passed the night was quite big due the fact it was placed in a cross path of commercial caravans, therefore there was a reasonable quantity of goods shops besides the usual food shops and leather goods for horses and human’s use; there were even some libraries and pharmacy stores, perhaps because the recent epidemic, although certainly it had made so that there weren’t so many clients as usual.

Lina and Amelia crossed the town’ streets and commerce squares looking for a corsetry for her. Even if the clients were a pair of foreign women from some far-far away place that spoken with accidental accent, the seller would be pretty happy to sell his expensive items to them. Lina knew it too well due the fact of being the daughter of a merchant, and she wouldn’t allow herself to pass the chance to haggle over the prices.

“Miss Lina… what is all this for?” Amelia asked. “I’m glad you aren’t angry with me anymore, but…”

“Shsss…,” Lina hissed, “I figured out what you meant to do, and even if I don’t know what’s going on in your thick head, I can't allow this can to happen again. We have to settle this now.” Lina hid her embarrassment behind her harsh attitude; Amelia knew her redhead friend didn’t want to be told about the whole matter and Gourry’s implications in this, but seemed to had assumed it was for Amelia’ sake about the moody chimera, thus she was about to help anyway.

Amelia smiled for herself. Lina was like that after all.

After looking here and there, both girls finally ended up inside a rich shop near the Town Market Square, the main commercial place on the city. The store was quite big and had several glasses on the walls, as well many dressmakers and tailors, mostly women and some men who had to be the store’s owners. Apparently, and according with criticizes sayings, local rich women were there to buy goods because that store sold underclothes made with silk, cotton and baleens, items that couldn’t be pay by common woman. Indeed, it was the best shop they found.

In spite of Amelia’s embarrassment, she proceeded to try on with several lingerie kits, always in white, which caused jealous glances from Lina because how nicely they fit Amelia’s full body.  The princess was very developed and the redhead always had been jealous of her for that; even for just a second, Lina thought in buying something for her, better if it had some padding inside… but thinking of the collection of stupid comments that Gourry would give about the matter, she rather had to give up the idea.

Finally Amelia got dressed with a white corset that embraced her curves and waist nicely; as well a pair of stay-up stockings and muffs on her arms decorated with silk laces and ribbons, and a complement was a white cap net on her head. The only problem was the breast cup, quite small for her size, which made her bust was pretty notorious. But even that made the result really beautiful and sexy.

Amelia was red, of course.

“This is more revealing than the old kit… I’m afraid I look like some short of… prostitute…”

“You are not one, Amelia.” Lina answered, lightly embarrassed by Amelia’ sigh and the whole matter. “You’re just a very desperate woman in love… I don’t support this but I cannot help but doing this. I don’t want more stupid quarrels like last nights or the Love Temple’s.”

The princess rushed towards Lina and embraced her in spite still wearing such clothes. “Thank you, Lina. You’re a friend!” she exclaimed.

“Yeah, yeah…Now use it for making him react. I don’t know what is going to happen, but if it doesn’t work, I don’t know what’s going on inside that stubborn chimera.”

Amelia giggled lightly embarrassed yet content by how the events had turned. Then she stopped.

“Lina… if this doesn’t work… do you think it could be because Mr. Zelgadiss is… well… you known…” she began.

“What!? No way!... I can assure you he likes cuties.” Lina answered harshly crossing her arms.

Amelia blinked; she never heard anything about “cuties” from Zelgadiss, but it didn’t mean he actually liked “cutie girls”, but perhaps something else. However, Lina interrupted that thought.

“…Just remember what happened in Femille. That stubborn guy doesn’t want to be reminded about that anymore.”

Amelia had to agree. The fact was his thoughts about women were a total mystery, but after Lina’ speech, Amelia realized she had asked a nonsense question because back to Femille, everybody saw how the moody chimera had a sudden crush by a very cute girl who eventually turned into a boy. Lina was right: It had made Zelgadiss never-ever want to talk about the matter again. Besides that, the whole Femlie’s issue had been the reason because Amelia had found Zel could be touched by the sight of a cute girl in his arms… Didn’t she think on that when everything started? Amelia realized she was just too nervous and scared about what could happen now.

Anyway, now Amelia knew she could be the cutie (and sexy) one.

Time to try again …for the third time.
